In Studio there was a Fraction Creator in the tool store. Does any one know where to find it or something like it in Inspire?

It's not there unfortunately. I hope that it will be added back.

I hope so too. I really missed it during the fraction unit last year. I ended up creating is studio and converting over. I really don't want to look back anymore.

My math teacher are missing this feature. Please add it back. Thanks for all you do!

I am new to ActivInspire and Promethean boards and I'm very frustrated at my inability to include higher math functions/symbols. I teach pre-algebra and algebra and need to be able to type in higher level math concepts. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I'm new too but I needed fractions today. After experimenting with it, I finally typed the numbers and variables I needed, lining them up on two rows, then added lines (in the shapes section) as fraction bars and layered them between the numbers. I did the same for the operation symbols, so that they would be at the same vertical level as the fraction bars. Then I grouped them so they became one unit. This may have been a lot harder than it needed to be, but it worked. I really hope they get the fraction creator back too--or at least a resource pack with the symbols we need. I hope this helps.

It would be nice to have these tools in Inspire.

In the meantime, you can download the free version of MathType, type an equation in MS Word (or other compatible application), and drag it into your flipchart. A little extra work perhaps, but certainly easier (and better) than trying to line everything up yourself.

Teachers in Forsyth are also frustrated by the lack of math symbology available in ActivInspire. I have found that if you are lucky enough to have access to MathType; you can create your symbol or equation and simply highlight and drag from Math Type to Inspire.

Those with Microsoft Office have a version of Math Type that is called Equation Editor.

Still we'd really prefer to see it as an integrated component.

Yes, this came up in a training today. We are moving to ActivInspire. Help!

In the meantime, do you think it would be helpful to make a template page with fractions already made? I made a "concept" one. See attached.

I created just the 10's fractions but can add the other ones. Each "set" is grouped with a pulley that has a restriction to move only horizontal. Pull out the "drawer" and each fraction has the drag a copy set to it so you should be able to make a copy that you need and then put the drawer back.

What do you think?

Sorry, I just tested my theory and it didn't work. It made a copy of the whole group. I'll work some more on it. Any ideas?

OK, did another version. This one they aren't grouped but the box is a container that can contain anything!

See if this idea would be helpful!

I love the pulley idea. I was planning on making a page like this of my own using the fraction creator and drag a copy to outline the page with attractive (better than my handwriting…) fractions. Then I got home and remembered I could not use the fraction creator without the board. Oh well, I did not want to work much any way.

I do have a question though: when I tried your fraction pulley I could only drag a copy of the whole pulley.
What did I do wrong?

Did the second one work?

Julie,

I use the line up method too but it easier to line them up one under the other then center the textbox and then use the underline text tool for the line. I have found that much easier to deal with.

Best of luck,
