Personalize your Flipcharts

Create personalized avatars to use on your flipchart pages. My students used the site http://www.myavatareditor.com to create an avatar that looks like the Mii characters from the Wii gaming system. They love to see pages with their avatars during my lessons. I easily insert speech bubbles to my pages and they are instantly motivated! I also use the avatars on my attendance screen that the students sign in on during our morning routine. One tip if you decide to use this site is to download the avatar with a transparent background as a PNG file. The avatars should then be cropped using a photo editing software to reduce the size of the transparent box around the avatar. This will make them easier to move on a page.

Hi tslezak, thanks for the link to that site, I know my pupils will love my new image!

There's an easy way in ActivInspire to get rid of the transparent box around an image. Select the image > Property Browser > Miscellaneous > click on Transparent Colour > use the Colour Picker to absorb the colour in the box, leaving you with the clean image.

I was talking to a high school math teacher today about personalizing lessons. She recently used clip art characters to represent students in a geometry lesson, and she said that the students were thrilled with the personalization! She was very excited when I told her about creating avatars to add a personal touch to flipcharts. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful idea. It's amazing how little things can make such a big difference!

Oh my goodness,
I am so excited to get back to school, so my students can begin signing in with with their new avatars! I teach kindergarten, I'm sure they will love it, too. Thank you so much for the info.

I like the Avatar idea and I will do some for my classes.

To name the Avatar use property browser and set the name of the Avatar as a label. This is a better way then group the name and the Avatar together. Now the name can "pop up" if you like or always be there.

Our teachers have created their avatars but I have a very large perimeter around mine that causes moving issues, if they are close together. When you click on your avatar the border is not as large as mine. I don't know what we are doing incorrectly.
