Hi -
I am interested in the ActivTablet but it's been hard to get a straight answer to my pre-sales questions - sales guy and tech support seem to contradict each other! So I thought I would ask the users with real life experience what they thought -thanks in advance for any pointers!

1. Sales guy said the tablet removes the watermark, tech support guy said no. Which is it?
2. Sales guy said the tablet can only be used with ActivStudio, tech guy said it could be used as a tablet with any program. Which is it?
3. Sales guy said no other tablet would work as a board controller - when using ActiveStudio with ActivBoard but controlling it from your laptop - tech guy said that you could use any tablet just like a mouse if the board is attached.
4. The literature says the tablet has 512 levels of pressure sensitivity - meaning it's touch sensitive. But the board isn't. So can ActivStudio recognize and respond to pressure senstive input when using the tablet- like how Photoshop draws lines proportional to pressure? Neither guy could answer that....
5. Is the table MAC compatible? (OS X) Sales guy said yes, tech guy said no.

Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks

Hi

Although not particularly techie, I will answer the bits I can :)

1. Sales guy said the tablet removes the watermark, tech support guy said no. Which is it?

Provided you install the driver which comes with the tablet the answer is yes!

2. Sales guy said the tablet can only be used with ActivStudio, tech guy said it could be used as a tablet with any program. Which is it?

If connected you can use your pen and tablet instead of your mouse on any program.

3. Sales guy said no other tablet would work as a board controller - when using ActiveStudio with ActivBoard but controlling it from your laptop - tech guy said that you could use any tablet just like a mouse if the board is attached.
Tech guy is right!

I think answer to both is yes, but am not entirely sure I totally understand the questions

Will leave that up to somebody else.

Hi Margaret - Thanks for your replies!
Sorry 4 was so confusing - what I meant was do the drawing functions of ActivStudio respond to pressure from the tablet, for example, many paint programs darken or widen the lines the harder you push the pen on the tablet, emulating a brush or marker effect. I know the ActivBoard isn't touch sensitive, so anything you draw a line it is of constant thickness. So I am asking since the tablet is an accessory, would the software be able to take advantage of that extra feature?

And as far as #5, the tech guy said there were no Mac drivers for the tablet, but it should work..... but I don't know if he means the watermarks stays or what.... Any Mac OSX users out there?

Thanks again

Lyford

Just to clarify from Margaret's last post on this topic ...

Tech guy is right!

Both are half right! Any other tablet would of course work, but would not get rid of the watermark in ACTIVstudio and handwriting recognition would be disabled.

4. The literature says the tablet has 512 levels of pressure sensitivity - meaning it's touch sensitive. But the board isn't. ACTIVstudio cannot respond to pressure sensitivity either on the board or via the tablet.

5. Is the table MAC compatible? (OS X) Sales guy said yes, tech guy said no.

Yes entirely, the driver for the tablet is in the ACTIVstudio for Mac CD. It works in exactly the same way as the PC version.
