I've just downloaded and started reading this new research report on compiled by Cisco and the Metiri Group. It is called Technology and Schools: What the Research Says.

Obviously, I headed right to the chapters about interactive whiteboard and clickers (I hate that word.) What I find interesting is the variety of results and I truly believe that if we think of these two "things" as tools to encourage active participation versus presentation, then quizzing, the impact is so much higher. Here is a quick excerpt or two:

IWB section:
"The literature suggests that while teachers may be teaching more creatively with interactive IWB
resources, students will continue to play a passive role if teachers do not engage them in active
higher order thinking processes through student-centered uses of these devices."

Clicker section:
Student engagement
"One of the most consistent, though primarily anecdotal, findings related to the use of clickers is their
impact on student engagement. In the Penuel study, researchers established a strong linkage
between positive student perceptions of their classroom environments and the frequency and quality
of clicker use."

Given this, what are your comments on these findings? :)

How do you use your Activclassroom (Activboard, ActivInspire, Activotes, Activexrpession) in a participatory way vs. a teacher-centric learning environment.
