Hello,
A new user here.

When I try to use handwriting recognition, without connecting the activeboard, it does not work, comes up with a message " this feature is not supported".

However, when shape recognition does work without connection to activboard or a activtablet.

Can someone explain why this happens?

If the software was coded to allow shape recognition without activboard or activslate, then why not also enable the handwriting recognition the same way?

The handwriting recognition engine and dictionaries are licensed utilities. As such we pay royalties on copies of the software that we ship. We would be in breach of our licence agreement if we let it run on any machine not connected to our hardware.

To enable handwriting recognition when not using an ACTIVboard, users may purchase an ACTIVtablet which plugs into your USB port and acts just like a mini ACTIVboard.

The shape recognition is our own and as such we have no requirement to restrict usage.

Hope that explains it for you

Thanks peter.
Your explanation makes a lot of sense.
