Making background transparent

How do you make the white on around the clipart transparent? I was told in a workshop: prop browser/misc/pick true/transp true/click on color and choose background color. It isn't working for me.

Hmm. It worked for me. I chose the color picker (eyedropper tool) and selected the "white" area. See screenshot.

if it isn't working for you then try selecting a different colour & then selecting the white again.
