Is it possible to animate images (shapes, pictures, etc.) that have been inserted onto a flipchart, a la Powerpoint?

You can insert animated gif files, You can also make object hide or show themselves.

what about having images fly across the screen, stretch, etc, as if one was animating PPT images?

There are actions you can apply to any object that will stretch, move its place, or hide it but I don't know of any action that will make it animate.
