button on activpen does not work

the button bar on my activpen isn't working. it worked in may but now it doesn't
I went to preferences and when i check the button bar box nothing happens - i am not
given any options.

It may be broken. Mine broke after not too much use. Glad I had two!
Sorry...... not much help but I did want to broach the topic that it might actually not be fixable.

yes, i have tried other pens.
I think it has to do with the preferences.
When i click button preferences - nothing comes up to highlite (click)

Do I need something to fix the preferences?

You've probably already done this, but have you checked the Activboard preferences in System Preferences? You'll find a Preference Pane for the Activboard in the bottom row of your System Preferences. Click on that, and then select the Activboard tab. There is a checkbox that says "Enable Barrel Click" near the bottom. Make sure that is checked off.

Once you've enabled that, there is one more thing to check. There is a tool in the Toolstore in the Presentation Tools row, fifth from the right that looks like a mouse with the right button colored orange. This also enables and disables barrel clicking. I have not found any other way to enable/disable barrel clicking from inside of Activstudio other than to put this tool on one of my toolboxes so that I can access it as necessary. (I have it on the Power Toolbox, since I don't use it that often.) If this tool is gray, than barrel clicking is NOT enabled. I have noticed that this setting seems to change randomly on occasion (like some others that I can think of, such as the text background). When this happens, I open my Power Toolbox and click on this tool so that it is no longer gray, and then I can barrel click again.

So, to summarize, there are two things that you need to check.

1. Make sure that barrel clicking is enabled in the System Preferences for Activstudio.
2. Make sure that barrel clicking is also enabled in Activstudio.

Please let me know if any of this isn't clear. It's a little complicated. :)
