Good evening. I am hoping someone on this forum has run into this problem and can possibly help me. I purchased Groovy Music by Sibelius over the summer on the recommendation on this forum. LOVE it! I spent some time prepping to use it as a major part of my music curriculum this year. I received a brand new Promethean board this August - a 300 Pro. Problem is, every time I launch Groovy on my computer, the Promethean stops recognizing the pen - I can't even calibrate. The laptop (Mac) works fine, but the kids can't interact with the board at all. I am piloting this for my district and would LOVE to be able to use it. Any suggestions?? Thanks so much, Shawna .????

Hi Shawna,
Do you have Inspire open when Groovy stops recognizing the pen? If so, are you using desktop annotate or desktop tools?

Hi Char,
I've tried opening Groovy both with Inspire running and without - each time, the board stops recognizing the pen.
I've added another clue last week. Groovy DOES work on the older boards in my building. My classroom just got a brand new 300Pro, and it doesn't work. There has to be a patch or something so I can use this wonderful program on my new board!!
Thanks,
Shawna

The exact same thing happens with GarageBand and with FinaleNotePad and Finale. There is obviously some sort of major problem with the USB driver for the new Promethean Board. The Promethean tech was at our school and spent 30 minutes trying to get things to work on my board, but repeatedly got the same problems. As soon as he would launch GarageBand the board loses interactivity.
If you are running an Intel-based Mac, you can unplug the USB cord and re-plug it in and wait for about 15 seconds. This MAY work, but doesn't work on the G4 or G5 Macs. Even if this works, it is clearly a bad conflict that needs to be fixed.

Since the Promethean tech was there, I'm sure that he made sure you have the latest driver, etc. I'll send it up the chain so that it gets on the "list."
Thanks for your patience!!!

Glad it's not just me - I've being going mental at the support team here in the UK - all I ever get is "oh well it's not a known issue therefore we aren't going to do anything about it - you will have to talk to Sibelius". Oh, ok then, I'll just go and talk to apple as well about garageband. Duhh!!
It does work if you unplug the USB cable and wait for a bit once you have opened either program, then plug it back in again - then it's all fine.
Sorry for the rant but am pulling my hair out here.!!

It appears that there is a conflict between the midi processes of programs such as Sibelius, Finale, Groovey, Garage Band, Logic and the new style Promethean Board, which has its own USB Audio device built in. It needs to be fixed by Promethean. I would hate to have to go along to conferences and professional association meetings and discourage people from buying Promethean boards.

I am SO glad to know I'm not the only one!!! Char - any news on this??? I want to use the product, and to recommend the Promethean board to music educators, but I can't until this is fixed.

This is a known bug and there is a fix in the works for it, unfortunately I cant say when it will reach users as I dont know what the fix involves, but it is being looked at.
