I did not know where to post this question since there is not a forum for forum questions. But here it goes...Is there a way to unsubscribe from different forums? When I log on to Promethan Planet and click "New Posts", lots of messages pop up, some of which are in foreign languages. Since I only speak English:), I was wondering if there was a way to unsubscribe from the other forums which address Promethean concerns in other languages? TIA

I have been thinking the same thing. I like to check out the new posts, but I have all forums in the other languages. It would be nice if you could subscribe to particular forums that would come up when you click on "New Posts."

I love the fact that the Promethean forum is in so many languages but I echo that sentiment. I'm sure that users in other languages don't want to have to scroll through all the English posts either.

Yes, I agree with you all. While a can decipher a little French and some Spanish, all these new languages do become annoying and time consuming to click through so they are no longer listed in New Posts!

I'll forward you message to the guys who work on the Forum "behind the scenes."

Here's what I do: after reading all the threads that interest me I click on the Quick Links drop-down menu (in the blue bar that goes across the page) and select "Mark Forums Read." Someone told me about this a while ago, but I don't remember who it was.

I hope that helps!

Cool! I'll have to try that out!

Everyone, thanks for letting me know that I am not alone.:p And yes, I agree that I am so proud to be a part of a group who tries to meet the needs of all educators, no matter what their language.

June, thanks for that tip! I'll have to try that also.:)

Lisa, thanks for passing the request on to the guys "behind the scenes." Also, it would be great if we could customize which forums (not just the languages) we would like to belong to. For example, I have absolutely no clue what they are talking about in the PDN. That way, if we choose to later subscribe to a particular forum, we can just go into our profiles and make the necessary changes.

Not sure if I did this correctly, but when I clicked on Quick Links > Mark Forums Read, it marked all forum threads as read, so when I clicked on New Posts, there were no more left.

Here's the steps I used:

First Click on New Posts and read each one you want to read.
THEN click on News Posts to confirm that you've read all the ones you want.
THEN click on the Quick links and Mark as Read.

Then the next time you click on new posts, it will not have the ones you didn't want to read from the last "new post."

Does that make sense? :p

Hi everyone on this thread.

We appreciate the issues you are reporting are not the experience we want our members to have and we are doing something about it. Its just taking time to make the transformation we want to deliver.

When we launch the new version of the site you will be pleased to hear that you will be able to subscribe to the items you want to see. This will include the ability for those that want to see foreign language to also subscribe to those. You will have much more control over what you see and in fact you will have a lot more control over many aspects of the planet experience. Cant say more at this stage ;-)

So please continue to be patient a little longer, we are working hard to evolve the site and remove the current speed issues we are all experiencing. We have fallen victim to our own success - we are at 400,000 thousand members running on a system I originally designed might reach 25,000 so that said I don't think its holding up too bad!

Cliff,
Thank you for working so hard to create such a rich experience. I'm glad to be a part of Promethean where I know that Promethean employees are genuinely interested in our success. It's exciting to hear that new things are coming soon, but I know that the growing pains are a good thing with the number of children who are benefiting from having well-trained, well-informed, and well-equipped teachers.

Hi Cliff,
I think everyone on the forum knows just hard hard you guys work to make Promethean as excellent as it is. I, for one, am proud to be a member. So in case I haven't said it, THANKS! I look forward to seeing what you guys have in store for us:-/

Hi and thanks to Cliff and all the hard workers on the Planet.
I am starting to do training in my district and I always share how fabulous the Planet is and how receptive the creators are to suggestions. I can't say enough great things about how responsive the Planet is to its members. :D

Thanks for the supportive comments guys! :)

We are moving to new infrastructure and applications asap but until that occurs we are also bolstering the current system as much as we can. We are mid way through a DB optimisation project that may hopefully reduce some of the pain surounding speed issues.

Still on the 'unsubscribe' theme - how can you unsubscribe from Planet?
In the 'Edit Information' options under 'Edit my Account' there is no option to do this
Does that mean that once someone is a Planet member they remain so for life? Or for ever?

Thanks Cliff.

Had an enquiry from a teacher - mind you, I am not sure she actually knows what Planet she is on, but here at ACTIVboardNZ we aim to please :D
