snap to grid and the point to point tool

Is it just the way I use my pen, or is it quite difficult to use the point to point tool to draw shapes when you have a grid and the snap to grid option selected. Sometimes I just get a dot and I can't get started drawing the shape. Without the snap to grid option I have no problems. Has anyone else expreienced this?

I've found this on odd occasions too. Sometimes I turn snap to off, then on again and it works. Other times I hold the pen on the first dot for a slightly longer period and that seems to work.
