View Full Version : New Area Screen Recorder: MAC

I have a list of a few things that are new quirks to 1.2, and the Area Screen Recorder is one of them. I selected the area screen recorder, and the pickup handles to set the area are available - nothing else. Nothing I could possibly do would end this process. I tried everything imaginable, but in the end was forced to do a hard shut down on my computer, losing the previous 30 minutes of work (normally I save my work every 10 minutes or so, but I guess I was brave this morning).
Most of my other issues have been small things, like the tool colors (protractor and ruler) sometimes have colors, and sometimes go back to default... and things like that. But those are minor.
I also can not consistently use the START (green play button) for the Expressions. I can't use any formal questions created in anything before 1.2, but even questions I created (again) in 1.2 do not work 2/3 of the time - and I am forced to use the Express Poll options. I have certainly updated my hub's firmware, and this seems more software related anyhow...
Anyone else had this problem?

For what it's worth, I just tested the area camera on ActivInspire 1.2 on my Mac OS 10.5.8 and had no problem.
I have only been sticking my toe into Inspirational waters for about week. I like the sleeker interface and feel confident that it will soon be able to do (nearly?) everything that AS3.6 could do, even if the route turns out to be different. Seems to be a really unreliable product at this moment though.

My area camera (still photos) works also - it's the video recorder that freezes each time. Not sure if you meant the recorder or the camera, but I just wanted to make sure that I made myself clear so it didn't come across that I was having issues with the camera. The camera works great. :)

Oops! I just tested the still camera.

Choosing Area screen recorder should bring up 2 things, the pickup handles for choosing the area to be recorded and a dialog box for launching the actual recorder, it sounds like the dialog box might be launching behind your Inpire window and keeping focus which prevents you doing anything else...
What Mac OS version are you using, and what version of Inspire?

I am using leopard and I have the version 1.2 something... the newest one because the area screen recorder wasn't an option before the newest version. I have played with it a couple times, and the window recorder stil works just fine, as it did in 1.1. I will try the area recorder again, but I'm wiped out (time for bed!)... and it will probably make me hard shut down again in order to end the process. So - if I don't respond more tonight, it's because I will have to shut down my computer to get out the area recorder and I'm calling it a night. ;)
AHA!!! IT WORKED FOR ME THIS TIME!!! Yeah!!! :) I am not sure why I couldn't get it to work the first time - but if it's this easy every time, it will be easy in the future. I'm not sure how the fluke happened the first time.

It may have been a stray click of the mouse that brought the Inspire window in front of the other one, if you do find a way to repeat it, let me know and I will get it raised as an issue.

I just updated my software from the newest release and the Area Screen Recorder doesn't work again. I had to restart my computer each time I tried it. Has anyone else reported this issue yet?

Do you get the dialog box to launch the screen recorder as well as the handles to set the area when you launch the area screen recorder?

I'm also on Mac OS X version 10.5.8; ActivInspire 1.2.14501
I can use both full screen recorder and area recorder without any issues (no lockups) except that I can't record my mouse pointer .
Under Dashboard -> Configure -> Manage Profiles -> Settings -> Recordings
I do have the checkbox next to Capture Mouse Pointer checked.

Yes the issue about the cursor not being captured has already been raised at our end.

I am having the same problem on my mac. I get the area handles but no command box. If you do a Shift+Command+Q I can get the box to pop out from behind (so I don't have to do a hard shut down). Even if you make the screen smaller, it is always behind. Yesterday it worked to do a screen recording. I just tried it again and now it is working. Sorry, not very helpful.

I am on a MacBook Pro running Leopard and the latest version of ActivInspire(1.2.14501) I've been trying to do training in my district and when I use the Area Screen Recorder, I get the window to resize for my area but not window with 'Launch Recorder'. I did find it by accident clicking out of ActivInspire and there it was. If, however, I click back on my ActivInspire the 'Launch Recorder' disappears. So I have to click to 'Launch Recorder' from there and it goes back to ActivInspire with the Record window ready to record.
Then today out of the clear blue I thought I would try it again and this time I got the resizing window and the window to 'Launch Recorder'.
Then I get home this evening and I searching these forum items and thought I'd try the Area Screen Recorder again. Back to NO 'Launch Recorder' window.

I've been having the same problems, so much so, that I am reluctant even to try it anymore! I've tried and tried and tried...
Thought it must be a conflict between Mac and Inspire - is it?
I am fully updated, and using Leopard 10:5:8...
