Many of our teachers do not use laptops with their activboards. Is there as way to split the input/output of the screen with a PC like there is for a laptop? Is the shortcut the same? fn+f5?

You would need some sort of additional video output. Laptops technically have 2 video outputs by default (not including things like S vid, HDMI...), the LCD monitor attached and a VGA port output.

Your desktop likely just has a single VGA output. Therefore, you would need some type of hardware that would either split or reroute your video. I think a new video card may do the trick if it has two VGA ports on it.
The Function- F? just toggles between the different hardware outputs that you have installed.

This would be something to discuss with your IT dept.
